The Amaryllis
Theatre Company
Amaryllis
Theatre Company was founded in 1999 by Linda Merians, Mimi Kenney
Smith and Stephen Patrick Smith.
Amaryllis is an inclusive professional theatre company whose mission is to produce new forms of theatre and encourage a richer sense of community by bringing together artists and audiences from all of Greater Philadelphias diverse communities, including the Deaf community and the communities of people with disabilities.
To accomplish this, Amaryllis provides universal accessibility for all artists and audiences, uses casting procedures that preclude discrimination on the basis of physical or cultural difference, and produces new plays, new forms of theatre and new translations of classics into American Sign Language.
In the seven years
since its founding Amaryllis has produced three world-premiere mainstage
productions in American Sign Language and spoken English, two Philadelphia
premiere productions including the wordless, Barrymore Award winning
Tuesday; four original, touring, educational musicals and many performance
events. All performances have included professional artists with and
without disabilities cast in auditions held around the country and
all have been accessible to all audiences.
